What is a dice roller
A dice roller rolls any number of dice with any number of sides and adds up the result, standing in for a physical set when you do not have one to hand. Set how many dice, pick the sides from a D4 to a D100, add a modifier if a game needs it, and Random Nr rolls each die independently from the browser cryptographic source, so the odds match fair physical dice.
What is the average roll for each dice type
A fair die with N sides averages N plus 1, divided by 2. Knowing the average of each die makes it easy to weigh up a weapon, a spell or a house rule before you roll.

Multiply the average by the number of dice to size up a whole roll: four D6 for character stats average 14, and the eight D6 of a fireball average 28.
Why more dice favour middle totals
A single die is uniform, every face equally likely. Roll several and add them, and the totals bunch in the middle, because there are more ways to make a middle total than an extreme one. With two D6 there are 36 equally likely pairs, but only one makes 2 while six make 7.

This is why 7 rules the middle of every dice game, and why several smaller dice give steadier totals than one large die of the same size.

Most games ask for one of a handful of rolls, and the roller covers them all in one press.
